Vita

I studied biology at the Ruhr University Bochum, where I specialized in microbiology and soon in microbial biotechnology. I completed my PhD on plasma-driven biocatalysis in the group of Julia Bandow, before moving as a postdoc to the DWI – Leibniz Institute and RWTH Aachen University (Schwaneberg group), where I worked on several projects in peptide and protein engineering for applications in agriculture and surface functionalization. With my own funding from the German Research Foundation (a DFG Walter Benjamin fellowship), I then joined the Craik lab at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland (Australia) to work on cyclic, bioactive peptides for agriculture and on systems for their production. I have since returned to the Ruhr University Bochum as a postdoc in microbial biotechnology, where I work on P450 enzyme systems for the sustainable production of bulk chemicals. I focus on protein engineering and design with the aim of turning designer proteins into practical, sustainable solutions for agriculture and green biotechnology.
